The Newton Slide Show package allows you to view images on your Newton MessagePad. Features of NSS include:
* Automatic playback mode with user selectable pauses between images.
* Manual viewing mode for moving forward or backwards through the images.
* User selectable transition effects.
This demo version of the Newton Slide Show (NSS) is a freeware application for displaying still images on the current family of Newton MessagePads (OMP, MP100, MP110, and MP120).
Using NSS:
1) Install the NSS application (LeeShow.pkg) using traditional means. Installation on a memory card is recommended due to the large size of the demo (171K).
2) Launch NSS via the LeeShow icon in Extras.
3) Tap the "Play" button to start (autoplay) the slide show. The "Play" button toggles to a "Stop" button while the slide show plays. Tapping the "Stop" button halts the show and toggles back to a "Play" button.
4) The "Slow" button indicates the delay time between images is 5 seconds. The "Slow" button toggles to a "Fast" button, setting the delay time to 1 second. Tap the "Fast" button again to resume a slow delay.
5) Tapping the up scroll arrow displays the previous image, while tapping the down scroll arrow displays the next one. Note that a running slide show will be stopped when using the arrow buttons. To resume autoplay, tap the Play button again.
6) Tapping the "Pop" button will toggle between all the available special effects transitions. You may use this button during autoplay or in manual mode. Note that the "Pop" transition essentially displays (pops) the next image without any special effects.
7) Tapping the "i" button pops up an information screen.
8) To remove NSS from your MessagePad, simply use the normal Remove Software methods.
Notes on the demo:
Most of the images included in the demo were captured with the Casio QV-10 digital camera. You'll see pictures of myself, some of my toys, and a neighborhood cat.
I also have the same slide show with about 1 minute and 20 seconds worth of music soundtrack. It requires a little over one megabyte of storage (due to the large size of the audio track). The audio-enabled demo is available upon request (though I may upload it at a later date.)
Future enhancements:
1) Add scripting to let the user choose the time delay and transition effect for each image.
2) Make a real information screen instead of the current "lazy developer's version"!
3) Make the NSS screen larger.
4) Refine/re-engineer the controls. Perhaps have a floating control panel.
5) Allow for multiple "photo albums". Let the user choose which album to view.
6) Create more special effects (and weed out the boring ones!)
7) Integrate the functionality of NSS with NMP (Newton Movie Player). Also incorporate NSS into Newton Books.
8) Allow anyone to import images and audio into NSS (yes, I'm still trying to work this out with NMP as well).
